Isles of Capri

Isles of Capri

Isles of Capri, once a series of mangrove islands, is now a charming community comprised of single family homes and condominiums along with 4 restaurants, marinas, and more. Leland L “Doc” Loach stumbled upon what would one day become Isles of Capri in 1955 on an impromptu trip to Marco Island with his wife. On a trip to the mainland to purchase a bait bucket – he stopped at a local real estate office to inquire about land for sale. Loach was looking for a new area to develop. Shortly after, Loach purchased the 4 magrove islands, totaling approximately 600 acres, for $350 per acre. In 1956 Loach began the process of dredging canals – a process that lasted for 5 years, with the dredge running 20 hours a day. The four islands were connected by roadbeds made from pumped sand, silt, and marl.

Prospective buyers were originally taken by boat from Marco Island to Isles of Capri to view homesites, the inital waterfront homesites for $5,000 which included bulkhead and seawall. In 1968 street signs and house numbers were assigned and regular mail delivery came to Isles of Capri.

Isles of Capri is a hidden gem nestled in the Southwest Florida wilderness and sparkling Gulf waters. Residents are still able to enjoy the activities that originally drew Loach to the 4 mangrove islands – boating, exceptional fishing, kayaking, and more – now with the convenience of every amenity available in nearby Marco Island and Naples.
